Pursued by God

I met Karen (not her real name) recently at St John's Southend. Karen never went to Sunday school, grew up knowing nothing about God and had never walked through the doors of a church. Despite this, she had a deep desire to know God. So much so, that during her daily walks along the beach she would write in the sand: "help me God!" She would seek to talk to God as she went about her day, hoping that he would hear her. She knew of local churches, but was too scared to walk into one.

One morning, as she went about her usual routine, she saw a man sitting on the beach reading a bible. She asked him about what it and soon he was able to share the gospel and invite Karen to church. Her life has been completely transformed. As we talked over coffee, she gushed about the welcome and support she had received. She loved being part of her new found family. But most of all she loved knowing who the God was that she was praying to all those years.

"Now I know that Jesus heard my prayers," she said. "My favourite part of the bible is Psalm 166, it begins 'I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.' How beautiful to know that he would turn his ear to someone like me."

The Lord finds a way for his sheep to hear his voice. Praise him!
